WJS Curriculum Progression – Physical Education (download link)
In addition to the statutory requirements pupils at Westfields Junior School have the opportunity to participate in a range of extended curriculum opportunities. Each term we hold a whole school sporting event where all of the children have fun, engage in physical activity and earn points for their teams!
Each class had a wonderful time completing sprint, novelty and long distance races in their Bubble Sports Days. The children particularly loved all of the stickers and the chance to stand on the podium! Well done to everyone for joining in with such great sporting attitudes.
As our fabulous Yr6 Team Captains could not mix with the bubbles, they recorded some special motivational messages and wise words. I was so impressed, we had to share their recording with you; please visit the school website under latest news, it is definitely worth a peak!
Fun was had by all during their class bubble sports day events… well done to one and all!
Potted Sports 2021
During the week of 22nd March classes participated in our ‘adapted’ Potted Sports events. Due to current restrictions, rather than coming together as the lower school and upper school to complete a series of physical activities, classes fashioned their team t-shirts and completed challenges to earn team points for St Andrew (Blue Team), St David (Yellow Team), St George (Red Team) and St Patrick (Green Team), activities included hurdles, hoops and relays. Lots of fun was had and the final results (which were VERY close) were:
As part of the North East Hants Sporting Partnership we also participate in a range of inter-school competitions and festivals. These range from netball, football and rounders to ultimate frisbee, tennis, rugby, hockey, tri-golf and cricket.
In addition to this we enter local leagues for netball and football.
Hart introduced the first District Sport competition in the Summer Term 2019. We entered a team and were triumphant as winners of the Key Stage Two Athletics (track & field) Competition.
We are very fortunate we are able to utilise the swimming pool at Yateley School. Our Year 5 pupils enjoy a term long swimming course led by qualified staff to fulfil the swimming requirements.
On a weekly basis we run a number of before and after school sporting clubs. These include: family running, netball, cricket, football, rugby, rounders, hockey, mindfulness, frisbee and cheerleading. We also host external provider clubs including: Judo, dodgeball, dance, family fitness and football.
