On Tuesday, our Year 5 pupils enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to the British Wildlife Centre in Lingfield. The trip was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn more about animals that are native to our country (but many that are rarely seen due to a decline in
numbers), habitats and conservation while exploring the outdoors. Throughout the day, we took part in guided tour of the animal enclosures led by knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. The children discovered fascinating facts about a variety of animals including foxes, badgers, otters, owls and also less familiar native UK mammals like the pole cat and weasel! One of the highlights was the ‘special guest’ talk, where children were able to see some animals up close and learn how they are cared for at the centre. The children also explored different habitats around the site of ponds, badger setts and the deer park.
Pupils asked thoughtful questions, showed great enthusiasm and represented the school wonderfully with their excellent behaviour, which was commented on by the staff at the centre – well done Year 5! It was a truly memorable trip that has inspired all of our Year 5 pupils to think more deeply about wildlife and how we can help protect it. We would like to extend our appreciation to the parent helpers who supported us throughout the day.
