This week, half of Year 4 were at one with nature when they visited the Gilbert White Field Studies Centre. Their day was jam-packed with learning a range of geographical skills to explore
Selborne River. With our wellies on, we climbed into the river’s meander and studied its width, depth and even used rubber ducks to time the speed of the river’s flow!
Our highlight in the river was using strategies to investigate its diversity – we even caught a fish and some shrimp! During our visit, we also had the opportunity to learn about Gilbert White’s house and grounds in a competitive orienteering activity. Finally, we used repeating patterns in nature to recreate river features using sticks. The weather stayed dry and a fantastic day of learning about field studies was had by all – we look forward to taking the second half of Year 4 next week!
