Bringing our current learning about Romans to life, this week Year 4 have taken a trip back in time to experience what it was like in Roman times on their Ufton Court residential. Bright and
early on Wednesday morning, our rather excited Year 4 children arrived at school packed and raring to go! As soon as everyone was ’checked in’ the children and staff (including the familiar face of Mr Medwell!) boarded the coaches and set off on our merry way. Arriving at our destination the children were keen to immerse themselves in the varied hands-on activities. Getting battle ready, the children staged military manoeuvres and re-enacted Boudicca’s Revolt. On the second day, we built up towards our celebration banquet by testing our archery skills, lighting fires and putting our historical skills to the test exploring artefacts. Our banquet feast fit for kings involved lots of role play and telling of Roman stories; there were certainly lots of giggles from everyone! During the course of the trip, we also found time to make soap balls as well as play an array of different Roman games. We are sure that the children (and staff!) will sleep well tonight after their sunny adventures, it was well worth the hard work and organisation; we are all proud of our children who represented WJS so well in terms of their engagement, efforts and behaviour, well done Year 4!
