On Thursday of this week, our Year 4 children experienced what life was like in Ancient Greece with a whistle-stop tour of Greek culture; from food tasting to theatrical performances, their Creative Day
covered many aspects of Greek life. The day began exploring the history of the Olympics and this was celebrated by the children making their very own Olympic torches. After the exciting sporting start, Year 4 began comparing Greek life to their own. They investigated the origins of our alphabet and wrote their names in Greek which they displayed on traditional laurel wreath head bands. To delve deeper into another very important aspect of Greek life, the children rehearsed and performed the famous playscript of Pandora’s Box. The fourth activity saw each class let their creative side shine by appreciating Greek pottery. This
involved looking at its various uses as well as different design features such as heroes and mosaic patterns. After gaining a better understanding, the children sketched and created their own. After lunch was just as fast-paced and exciting as before. All three classes were incredibly captivated by the prospect of tasting more Greek food. Some of the traditional cuisine on offer included: tzatziki, pitta bread, fig rolls and grape juice!
It was certainly an action-packed day filled with so many fantastic learning opportunities linked to our history topic—there are more photographs on the school website.
