On Thursday 5th March, we enjoyed another book‑filled celebration with our annual World Book Day! Children (and staff!) arrived bursting with excitement dressed either as their favourite book characters or in their comfy pyjamas, ready for a day devoted to stories and the wonderful world of reading. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm throughout the school.
This year, our theme was ‘Fiery Fiction’ and each year group explored a dragon‑themed book. Following a special assembly, Year 3 discovered magic in The Dragon in the Library, Year 4 were swept up in the adventure of Ember Spark and the Thunder of Dragons, Year 5 journeyed deep into Dragon Mountain and Year 6 ventured through fantastical worlds in Impossible Creatures. Across the school, children took part in a range of exciting reading‑themed activities, including creating their own mystical creatures, designing intriguing islands and writing diary entries documenting their travels to mysterious lands. As a new venture, we also held a Book Swap event within each year group, giving children the opportunity to exchange a pre‑loved book and discover a new favourite. Many children entered our Storybook Stones competition too; decorating stones with characters from beloved stories – some even created whole scenes! The creativity and effort were truly impressive.

To finish the day, children from across Westfields Federation came together to share and enjoy stories in our Big Federation Read. The sun even made a welcome appearance, enabling us to even enjoy reading outdoors. It was a super end to a day that truly celebrated the joy of books and the power of imagination.
