This week, we have celebrated Reading Matters Week with this year’s theme of ‘Reading is Out of This World’. The aim was once again to promote a love of reading across the school whilst helping children discover that every book can take them on an incredible journey through new worlds, exciting adventures and fascinating characters.
Throughout the week, each class became a crew of reading astronauts, exploring a space-themed story through five exciting Space Reading Missions. Children completed mission launch cards with their predictions, created character profiles, transmitted to mission control about key events, discovered new worlds and created mission reports recommending their stories. As they completed each challenge, they collected mission badges on their journey to becoming certified Reading Astronauts.
Classes also took part in a fun team challenge, creating space-themed reading photographs which we look forward to sharing with the children in school. As an additional activity, the ‘7 Nights Under the Stars’ reading challenge has been shared with the children and it is still open until next Thursday (17.09.26) and we hope that many children will take part to share their love of reading and be in with a chance of a prize.
Today, the whole federation joined together for Starlink Reading, sharing books across year groups and enjoying stories together. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading as a community and show that books really can take us out of this world!
