On Monday, our school embarked on a Federation Maths Day! We began with an assembly imagining a world without numbers: no times, no money and no birthdays! This inspired the theme of our day – a world powered by numbers…
Mathstopia! Every class was challenged to build and name a town which then came together in the hall to create our very own Westfields Mathstopia City. From using dienes and 3D shapes to drawing nets, every class certainly met the challenge given as you can see from the pictures! For the remainder of the day, it was time to bring the city to life. In Year 3 and 4 they created transport tables using their knowledge of time and multiplication facts whilst in Year 5 and 6, the children were employed in a variety of roles (from train drivers to architects) with a monthly wage to budget from. To complete the day, every class across the federation was given a park problem to solve which the children then thoroughly enjoyed sharing with classes from the Infant School. From the feedback that the children have given, I think it is safe to say that everyone had a fantastic day and realised just how important Maths is to our world!
